Mazda Furai Concept to be Unveiled as Early as 2011 to replace RX-7 ?

Don't ask me why the Japanese Mazda Furai Concept fitted with Korean Kumho tyres.

In the other hand, a proper two-door coupe replacement for the much-missed Mazda RX-7 could make its appearance as early as 2011 as a 2012 model, according to a report from Edmund's Inside Line. The news site says the introduction of the two-seat RX-7 will lead to the death of the four-seat RX-8 with its 'suicide-style' rear doors since it wouldn't make much sense for Mazda to have RX-8 and MX5 Miata in its lineup.

Officially, the only piece of information that Mazda has released about its next generation RX model is the development of a new 1.6-liter (800cc per rotor) rotary engine called the 16X Renesis. Rumor has it that the new engine can produce up to 350hp.

However, the japanese automaker's is considering whether to develope a less powerful two-seater with not so many fancy features with intention to lower down the price tag. A less powerful but better priced RX-7 doesn't sound a bad idea at all since the Toyota FT-86 will be in the segment of playground.

Video Teaser of 2010 Toyota Etios Small Sedan Concept in India

In anticipation of the upcoming New Delhi motor show in India, Toyota has released a video teaser of its new small sedan that appears to be more pre-production than pure concept. Media reports from India suggest that the production version of the low-cost sedan will be called the Etios and will be offered with a small displacement diesel and gasoline engines when it arrives in the market towards the end of 2010 in India.

Toyota's low-cost sedan that has been specifically developed for emerging markets will first go on sale in India and following by Asean region like other automakers that participate in emerging markets.

Hong Kong Tons of Exotic Luxury Super Car

* Picture is for illustration only

Hong Kong's roads read like pages ripped from a luxury car magazine. Hundreds of ultra-flash motors from Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches to Aston Martins, Rolls-Royces and Bentleys, inch through traffic on the city's clogged and smoggy roads.

Even taxes of 120 per cent don't deter Hong Kong's uber-rich from splashing out on the latest super-expensive 'boy's toy' - with dealers seeking to import as many supercars as they can get their hands on.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Marchy Lee's CarPro showroom contained a Lamborghini Murcielago LP650-4. There were only 50 ever made and this was the last one on sale in Asia. Price on the road? A bank account-buckling US$800,000 (S$1.12 million). Or, there's always the cheaper option, a stunning black and gold Ferrari 430 Scuderia - a snip, at US$520,000.

'You buy this car, you want to be driving on the road and for some people to take a good look,' Marchy said from the Murcielago's driver's seat. 'There are a lot of supercars in Hong Kong, even though it's a very small place. 'A few successful Hong Kong businessmen own 30 or 40 supercars. They are big boys and they need to buy toys. So these are their toys.'

But it's not just the boys. Nicole Wang, a banker, zips out of a parking spot in Hong Kong city centre in her Audi R8 - worth around US$300,000 - straight into a traffic jam.

'I chose this car because it suits my character,' she said. 'It's not for middle-aged men. It's very special and very rare in Hong Kong - there are only about 50 here right now.'

World's top 10 best places to celebrate Christmas by Lonely Planet

This time, let me try to be a Travel Host like Janet Hsieh for a short time in this post. I'll be showing you 10 best magical places to celebrate Christmas in the world and I believe you will enjoy it for sure.

Christmas has become a global festival, regardless of religion or location. Lonely Planet's 1000 Ultimate Experiences lists the best places in the world to experience the yuletide spirit and enjoy the reason of been alive!

With today's emphasis on present grabbing and overindulging, it's hard to deny that the real meaning of Christmas often seems forgotten. For a refresher, nothing compares to a pilgrimage to Jesus' birthplace. The energy on Manger Square and in the Old City on Christmas Eve could light a forest of Christmas trees. The place to be as the clock strikes 12 is St Catherine's Church, for the Midnight Mass service.

When too much Santa is never enough, rug up and head north to Finland's Arctic Circle. The jolly man in the red suit is this neighborhood's most famous resident, and round these parts they milk him for all he's worth. Still, the deep wintertime snow and reindeer-dotted forests go a long way toward off setting the touristy atmosphere, though there's an amusement park called Santa Park not far from the village. You'll need deep pockets, but you'd have to be pretty Grinch-like to leave without a smile.

Surely you know what Christmas in the Big Apple looks like, thanks to countless movies: Christmas lights, cheesy muzak, preferably a light dusting of snow. The world's tallest Christmas tree is lit at the Rockefeller Center in early December. Ice skating below it is a must for wintertime visitors, as is checking out the window displays in New York's largest department stores. Finish with a New York Ballet performance of "The Nutcracker" for a Christmas straight out of central casting.

Hit the beach to talk turkey with fellow travellers. Bondi is the antithesis of northern-hemisphere Christmas cliches: sun, sand and surf replace snow and fairy lights. Come 25 December the beach acts as a magnet for backpackers a long way from home, who celebrate alongside other "Christmas orphans." Bands and DJs rock the Pavilion, everyone checks out everyone else, and a festive atmosphere prevails. Items you may not normally take to Christmas dinner: swimsuit, sunscreen, sunhat.

You can rest assured that the spiritual heart of Catholicism knows how to do Christmas. The Eternal City is magical at any time of year, but December has an extra frisson, with roasted chestnuts sold on every corner and the city awash with presepi (nativity scenes) - check them out on St Peter's Square, Piazza Navona, and in the church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli on the Capitoline Hill. It's the Vatican that pulls the most pilgrims. Midnight Mass in St Peter's Basilica on Christmas Eve, or at noon on Christmas Day, is an affair to remember.

With a cracking sense of humor, the staunchly Catholic Irish have a few novel ways to honor Christmas. The most eyebrow-raising is a morning swim on the 25th at the Forty-Foot sea-water pool. In the lead-up to the big day there's life aplenty on Dublin's streets and the craic flows. There's the 12 Days of Christmas Market at the Docklands, cheesy pantos, Christmas lights, ice skating, and markets and seasonal cheer in Temple Bar. Don't miss carols at St Patrick's Cathedral.

If present buying makes you think of heaving department stores, maybe you should experience the magical Christkindlesmarkt (Christmas Market), in Nuremberg's Hauptmarkt. Here, 180 stalls proffer toys, trinkets, candles, gingerbread and sweets to shoppers warmed by sizzling bratwurst and mulled wine. Visit after dark, when the colored lights create a fairy-tale spectacle. Christmas shopping never looked this enchanting.

All those famed chocolate-box attractions -- mountains, snow, cobbled streets -- make Switzerland extra-appealing come Christmas. Zurich wins our vote for its oodles of Christmas markets (don't miss the one inside the train station), guided Christmas-themed city strolls, and the enchanting all-singing Christmas tree that comes alive on Werdmuhleplatz. On a tiered triangular stage covered in assorted greenery and fairy lights, a choir of local youngsters sweetly delivers Christmas carols.

Christmas in Tokyo is a fairy-lit, religion-free sight to behold. Traditionally, celebrating the New Year is more important in Japan than Christmas, but this is what happens when non-Christians embrace Christmas, and with gusto: spectacularly over-the-top decorations and lights. While the lead-up is dazzling, Christmas Day itself is a fizzer as it's not a holiday. Christmas Eve is the big deal, resembling Valentine's Day in activity -- a night for couples and romance. Feasting Japanese-style involves fried chicken followed by sponge cake topped with cream and strawberries.

A small island with a big personality, Puerto Rico serves up a sunny Christmas with a salsa beat and a side dish of spit-roasted pig. Festivities last from early December to Three Kings Day on 6 January. From mid-December churches conduct dawn masses rich with Christmas carols, while exuberant roving groups of carolers travel from house to house and make merry. The big feast is held on Christmas Eve, followed by Midnight Mass. For season-setting decorations, head to City Hall on the Plaza de Armas and the fairy-lit promenade Paseo de la Princesa.

Michael Schumacher return to F1 in 2010 and aiming for 2010 world title

Schumacher _2010_2.jpg

Schumacher _2010_1.jpg

Mercedes GP has confirmed Michael Schumacher as its driver for next season, in a deal he said was three years long and believed to be worth €7 million (US$10 million).

Michael Schumacher, who turns 41 in January, will be part of an all-German team with 24-year-old Nico Rosberg, who agreed a deal with Mercedes last month.

Schumacher was expected to return with Ferrari last year as a replacement for the injured Felipe Massa. But his comeback was cancelled after a neck injury, sustained in a motorbike test in February, turned out to be more serious than previously thought. He has recently undergone extensive medical tests, and has now declared himself fit to race.

"The motivation I think is pretty straightforward," Schumacher said. "Our aim can only be to fight for the championship. We are talking about a three-year deal, it is not a one-off thing. We are obviously looking for continuity.

"The call I got from Ross at the end of November concerning the chance to go racing, Mercedes being involved, I felt great. I never left the race track. I was tired of F1 by the end of 2006, but in three years of absence I got back all the energy that I am feeling right now. I played around with motorbikes and I feel ready for some serious stuff now."

Ross Brawn (Team Principal) said he now had one of the best driver line ups in F1 and was confident Schumacher could challenge for the title in 2010. Brawn's team won both drivers' and constructors' titles in 2009 with Jenson Button, but the British driver left the team last month to drive for McLaren. When asked, Brawn denied Button was pushed out of the team to make space for Schumacher.

HP computers 'racist' claim

A US man posts a video online claiming his new face-recognition webcam does not work with black faces. In another word, is this technology developed to be 'racist'??

HP - "The Computer Is Personal Again", should be rephrase to "The Computer Is Racist Now"

Update this Post:

On 21 December 2009, Hewlett-Packard Co. said that they are looking into the facial-tracking software used in its personal computers, after a customer calling himself “Black Desi” posted a YouTube video, where he says that "Hewlett-Packard computers are racist."

According to Hewlett-Packard, the software is designed to find faces by measuring the contrast between the eyes and upper cheek and nose. It however, fails to do so if the skin complexion is darker.

Michael Schumacher reveals high possibility comeback in F1 with Mercedes-Benz

Michael Schumacher has told Ferrari that there is a "very, very, very strong possibility" that he will race for Mercedes-Benz in Formula 1 next year, team president Luca di Montezemolo has revealed.

Although there has not yet been any official word from the Schumacher or Mercedes-Benz camps about the progress of talks in relation to an amazing comeback for the seven-time world champion, Di Montezemolo has given away just how far advanced the situation now is.

Di Montezemolo confirmed that Ferrari had agreed to release Schumacher from any remaining commitments he had to the Italian team so he could make the switch to Mercedes-Benz in the event of a deal coming off.

However, given the opportunity for Schumy to return to a Formula One cockpit and prove a thing or ten, he appears keen on racing no matter the color of the car. Keep up the good stuff Schumacher!

Taiwan plans junk food tax and could take effect by 2011

I know I will be definitely out of topic in my blog. Anyway, I will still continue this post as I find it really interesting and good for health! This is so-called FATS TAX...

Taiwan government is planning the world's first tax on junk food in a bid to encourage the public to eat healthily and cut obesity.

The Bureau of Health Promotion is drafting a bill to levy the special tax on food deemed unhealthy, such as sugary drinks, candy, cakes, fast food and alcohol, the Apple Daily said.

Revenue from the tax would finance groups promoting health awareness or subsidise the island's cash-strapped national health insurance program, the report said.

The bill is expected to be submitted to the parliament for approval next year and could take effect by 2011, it said, citing the bureau's director Chiou Shu-ti.

Taiwan would be the first government in the world to impose a junk food tax if the bill is passed, according to local health advocacy group John Tung Foundation.

"Overweight problems are getting worse in Taiwan with 25 to 30 per cent of children obese, and it will cause more strain on our national health system," said Beryl Sheu, chief of the foundation's food nutrition division. She added, "Hopefully the tax will dissuade people from eating junk food and snacks and prompt food companies to make healthier products."

BMW Concept ActiveE electric car based on 1-series coupe

BMW has moved another step closer to its first plug-in production car that having 160km range, rear-wheel drive, no fuel, no emissions. Which meet the criteria to be BMW's first all-electric car.

After Mini E revealed, the BMW ActiveE follows as part of BMW's 'Project i' zero-emissions program. It's based on a 1-Series Coupe but ditches the internal combustion engine and fuel tank for a twin battery pack and electric motor capable of powering the car for up to 160km.

There are two lithium-ion battery packs fitted, one is positioned under the bonnet and the other under the car. The electric motor fitted on the boot and almost halves the entire boot space, to 200 litres. The positioning of the battery packs is said to further aid the car's handling by lowering the centre of gravity and contributing to a near-50/50 weight balance.

The ActiveE also weighs about 400kg more than a regular 1-Series Coupe, though BMW claims the car can accelerate from 0-100km/h in less than 9 seconds and reach an electronically governed top speed of 145km/h.

BMW says its electric car's recharging time can be as fast as 3 hours using a fast-charging system by using conventional electrical sockets.

BMW has incorporated the electric motor into the rear axle to ensure the ActiveE adheres to the company's preference for rear-wheel drive. The motor generates 125kW of power, as well as an instantaneous 200Nm of torque.

Special alloy wheels (designed to reduce drag), the absence of exhaust pipes at the rear, and electrical-circuit graphics ensure the ActiveE concept won't be confused with a regular 1-Series Coupe.

The Concept ActiveE will debut at January's Detroit motor show, and join the Mini E in real-world field trials, leased to both private and fleet customers for daily use.

Cruise control on Ford Explorer almost killed a Young Victorian Motorist

Ford Logo.jpg

Today, a terrified 22-year-old driver thought he was going to die when a jammed cruise control trapped him in his four-wheel drive for half an hour as it raced along the Eastern Freeway, Victoria.

In a scene reminiscent of thriller blockbuster Speed, the Ford Explorer’s cruise control got stuck as he attempted to take the Burke Road exit in Melbourne’s north-east about 12.40pm (GMT+10).

He called up Ford service to do a live troubleshooting but failed. He ended calling 000 emergency for help. The police sergeant helped calm the scared motorist while attempt to assist the motorist to stop the vehicle via phone.

Police arrived quickly, with two cars under sirens and lights driving ahead of the tearaway four-wheel-drive to clear traffic.

The driver put his full weight on the footbrake, swerved on the wrong side of the road to avoid running into the back of everyone including other police cars.

Lastly, the driver pulled on the handbrake, bringing the car to a halt outside the Monash University Peninsula campus which just half a metre away from a head-on collision.

Police have taken the Ford for inspection while the young driver sent to Frankston Hospital which suffered some whiplash, and shock after this incident.

Ford Australia public relations manager Sinead McAlary said Ford had not experienced anything like this before. She added that, "We will be making contact with the driver as soon as possible to learn more about what took place and then get access to his vehicle to investigate the matter further"

Honda Freed is coming to Malaysia very soon from Indonesia and launching in Thailand this month!

View my new post on the launch of Honda Freed in Malaysia by clicking "Honda Freed launched in Malaysia on 22 April 2010"

Honda Freed - Asean 1.jpg

Back in 2008, the Honda Freed was unveiled in Tokyo. The Freed is compact minivan, based on the new 2009 Honda Jazz. While the Freed retains the same width as the Jazz/Fit at 1,695 mm, it’s longer (4,215 mm vs 3,900 mm), higher (1,715 mm vs 1,525 mm) and it also features an extended wheelbase measuring 2,740 mm in length (vs 2,500 mm).  In another way of explaining this in Malaysian way, it is like Perodua Myvi and Alza.

Honda offer three variants the Freed on JDM market: 7 seaters, 8 seaters and 5 seaters with a large cargo space. All three variants of the Freed are also equipped with sliding rear doors on both side.

For the JDM market, 2009 Honda Freed offered in front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive variants, both of which are equipped with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder SOHC 16 valve L15A i-VTEC engine mated with CVT auto transmission and delivers an output of 120PS.

For the good news, PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) in Indonesia have announced that they will increase production of Honda Freed to 6,000 unit in 2010 and exporting to Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei Darussalam. Furthermore, Honda Freed will be officially launch in this month at Thailand.

However, the above mentioned is all for Japanese Domestic Market and there will be slightly different for Asean region. For the Asean model, the Mini-van is having the same engine as per JDM but mated with 5-speed Auto Transmission instead of CVT.

A high-level specification overview of the Asean model, there is standard model as well as a little more premium model with Power Sliding Door & Dual SRS Airbags. Both model having Front Ventilated Disc Brake and Rear Drum Brake with 15 inch alloy wheels (185/65R15).

I think this mini-van is suitable as family car and it looks better than our local Perodua Alza at its class. For pricing wise, there is no solid news but it will be priced at the range of Honda Jazz (> RM100k).

For potential owners, you are ready to book it to be the early batch owners of the Honda Freed in Malaysia. Check out your local Honda dealer today!

2010 Toyota Camry Hybrid - Australia's first built hybrid car

The first hybrid car to be sold in Australia that is built from Toyota's Altona Plant

The hybrid version of the Toyota Camry will go on sale in February 2010, marking the beginning of a new, greener era for the local car industry rolled off the Toyota production line at Toyota's Altona Plant yesterday.

Toyota plans to sell 10,000 hybrid Camrys a year and the Victorian Government has already committed to buy 2000 of them. Private buyers may be hard pressed to get their hands on the car, though, as Toyota insiders say fleet pre-orders for the car have been particularly strong.

The Hybrid Camry employs a slightly different version of the regular Camry's 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, with a small electric motor powered by Nickel Metal Hydride batteries supplying additional power at low speeds and when the car is cruising.

Instead of a regular automatic or manual gearbox, it uses a continuously variable transmission, which both improves acceleration and reduces fuel consumption.

The car's suspension and steering has also been tuned by Australian engineers to better suit local tastes.

The car looks like a conventional vehicle from outside, except for a couple of subtle styling changes to highlight its environmental friendliness.

Inside there is an "eco-gauge" instead of a rev-counter and a read-out that tells the driver when they're using petrol, electric power or a combination of both.

2011 Honda CR-Z Brochure leaks out altogether with the Mugen Honda CR-Z

From the source (Temple of VTEC), they have a set of leaked brochure of the 2011 Honda CR-Z with some specs and trim details.

As the result of that, we have specification figures on the 1.5-liter engine's output with 112hp @ 6,000 rpm on its own and another 14hp from its electric motor. Just as importantly, the engine creates 107 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpm with the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system boosting that by another 57 lb-ft at 1,000 rpm. Coupled with either a six-speed manual or CVT gearbox, the CR-Z perform the 0-100km/h in 9.7 seconds.

Since hybrid cars usually talks about efficiency as main picture, the CR-Z will benefit from LED daytime running lights and turn signal indicators in the mirrors, along with three driving modes – Eco, Normal and Sport. Each controllable from a dash mounted switch and with a different color surrounding the gauges based on the mode.

Furthermore, we have got a new scan featuring the JDM MUGEN variant too. The new photo shows Honda's hybrid-coupe in full MUGEN bodykit with a new front grille, side skirts, front lip, large rear wing, a new rear bumper with diffuser and alloy wheels.

As usual from MUGEN tuning kit and we assume that the 2011 CR-Z will also include numerous other upgrades such as suspension and brake kits, a sport exhaust system and interior options.

Lastly, the new Honda CR-Z will be launched in Japan in February 2010.

Tiger Woods' Cadillac Escalade actually owned by GM

Couple of weeks back, Tiger Woods drove into a hydrant and then a tree early in the morning of November 27 at his residence. The SUV is heading to the body shop for repairs.

Interestingly, the Cadillac Escalade isn't owned by Tiger Woods but it's part of GM's promotional fleet. After the golfer's deal with Buick ended last year, Tiger made a deal with the automaker to keep a few cars for his personal use. His choices included a Buick Enclave and Cadillac Escalade.

Nissan announced a limited run of just 40 examples of the car for Europe and will be accepting orders for the GT-R SpecV at Nissan High Performance Centres (NHPCs) across Europe only until January 22, 2010.

The number reflects the 40th anniversary of the launch of the first Nissan to wear the GT-R badge.

The key highlights of the GT-R SpecV model include a set of lightweight carbon-fiber parts, no rear seats, revised springs and fixed-rate dampers, carbon ceramic brake system from Brembo, a titanium exhaust system, bespoke Recaro carbon fibre bucket front seats and 20-inch Ray alloys. The SpecV amount to a weight saving of 60kg over the standard GT-R with its upgraded parts.

The engine's performance has been enhanced with a new high gear boost control device, which briefly increases boost of the twin turbochargers for greater torque in the intermediate-to-high speed ranges while remaining the maximum horsepower output.

In the UK, the SpecV is priced at £124,900 (based on 17.5% VAT and £405 RFL).

It’s Volkswagen’s Amarok, the first one-tonne ute to be developed in Germany.

The Amarok will be built in Argentina from early next year and will arrive in Australia in the Q2 2010, although it will initially be available only as diesel four-door ute with a manual transmission. For automatic will be launch until 2011, and likely to be a dual-clutch version, as seen on existing Volkswagen commercial vans.

Detailed specifications won’t be released until nearer the launch in Australia. However, from what we found from the internet. The Argentina built truck offers with two engines.

Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, and the 90kW engine uses just 7.6 litres per 100km (7.8L/km for the 120kW engine). Volkswagen says the vehicle’s 80-litre petrol tank is capable of producing a range in excess of 1000km.
